Kingman Community Development
Date July 23, 2009
Dear Friend of Kingman
I am a student under the direction of Professor Tim Tyrrell in School of Community Resources and Development at Arizona State University.
I am conducting a research study that will hopefully enhance the quality of life for current and future residents of Kingman. Since tourism is integral to the Kingman economy, we are looking for ways tourism development might lead to that end. I am inviting your participation, which will involve taking a 10 minute online survey.
Your participation in this study is voluntary. You can skip questions if you wish. If you choose not to participate or to withdraw from the study at any time, there will be no penalty. You must be 18 or older to participate in the study.
There are no foreseeable risks or discomforts to your participation.
Your responses will be treated as anonymous and nothing that will identify you will be recorded. The results of this study may be used in reports, presentations, or publications but your name will not be known/used.
If you have any questions concerning the research study, please contact the research team at: timt@asu.edu or Mallory.Casson@asu.edu If you have any questions about your rights as a subject/participant in this research, or if you feel you have been placed at risk, you can contact the Chair of the Human Subjects Institutional Review Board, through the ASU Office of Research Integrity and Assurance, at (480) 965-6788.
Visiting the online website and completing the survey will be considered your consent to participate.
Sincerely,
Mallory Casson, Kingman class of 2005

Finally, here are a few specific items about tourism and the future of Kingman. Please indicate to what degree you agree with the following:
Strongly Agree
Agree
Neutral
Disagree
Strongly Disagree
No Opinion
Kingman should develop itself as a tourist destination to attract visitors to stay more than a few days.
Kingman should concentrate on attracting “drive through” tourists to stop, shop, eat and visit local attractions before continuing their travels.
Kingman should work on attracting more international visitors
High School students would do a good job of helping to document the interesting history and attractions in Kingman if they got a chance to work with the tourism industry.
With the collaboration of the local hotels and attractions, Kingman could develop an international fast pitch softball league, attracting regional, national and international clubs to play on local fields.

Thanks very much for your help with this project,
